I was born on March 3rd 1847 in Edinburgh, to my father Alex a Professor and my mother Eliza Grace. I had two brothers who both died of tuberculosis.


As a child I displayed natural curiosity of the world. My family were long associated with the teaching of elocution and my father published the book 'The Standard Elocutionist' in 1860. Although I was unable to complete my university programme, I received numerous Honorary Degrees.


I worked extensively in medical research and invented techniques for teaching the deaf to Communicate, and in 1870 age 23 I moved to Paris, Ontario Canada. In 1881 I developed the metal detector.


But in 1875 my controversial run in with fellow inventor Elisha Gray, was to cause a stir even to this day. I had agreed to share profits for my new invention with Gardiner Hubbard and Thomas Sanders to ensure the patent was registered in the US and with George Brown to ensure the same in the UK.


By the time of my passing in in 1922, I had had four children with my wife Mabel Hubbard. I also held the patents to many inventions in the field of Aeronautics and Hydrofoils but it's for my invention of the telephone that I will best be remembered. Who am I ?
